Col Eli Lilly entered the service as a 2nd Lt in the 21 Indiana Infantry, resigned and formed the 18th Indiana Light Artillary which at one time was the largest battery in the AOC. Later he resigned this commission to become a Major in the 9th Indiana Cavalry. Captured at Sulphur Trestle by Gen. N.B. Forrest. Promoted to Col in December after exchange. Col. Lilly formed the Eli Lilly and Company in 1876 and it became a world wide drug company.
